McCall Road

In 2009 the City of Manhattan was notified by KDOT that the McCall Road Project had been selected for American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding.    The “shovel ready” projects selected for ARRA funding weren’t all exactly “shovel ready”.  McCall Road fell into that category.  Although the design was at least conceptually complete, land acquisition and final design had not yet occurred.  During the summer of 2009 SMH Consultants partnered with another firm to provide the final design of some of the key components of the project in addition to providing land acquisition services.  All easements were to be acquired by a certain deadline or the funding was to be lost.  This left about 90 days between initial meetings with property owners to closing with property owners, all under the Uniform Act for Real Property Acquisition.  Although it was doubted the acquisitions could be completed in the necessary time frames, they were.

SMH Consultant’s approach to land acquisition proved once again the efficiency of the SMH Consultants land acquisition process.  In 2010 the new roadway was opened to traffic and since that time phases II and III of the project have also taken place.
