As a Licensed Land Surveyor, you’ll be the key leader in guiding our dedicated survey team of 10 professionals while driving client projects forward. Here’s what you’ll do:
Lead Our Team: Manage and mentor a team of talented survey professionals while ensuring high-quality work is being performed.
Hands-On Projects: Prepare and review fieldwork, plats, surveys, and legal descriptions. You’ll also create scopes of work and cost estimates.
Client Engagement: Communicate directly with clients to ensure project requirements are met.
Team Development: Train and support the survey team and implement innovative survey techniques as industry standards evolve.
We’re looking for someone with a Kansas surveying license, expertise in all areas of surveying, infrastructure insights, KDOT familiarity, CAD proficiency, and 5-10 years experience as a licensed surveyor.

As the Construction Observer, you’ll oversee and perform general construction and field observation on KDOT partied transportation projects, ensuring compliance with plans and specifications. Here’s what you’ll do:
Construction and Field Observation: You’ll be reviewing and interpreting construction plans, tracking contractor progress, and documenting key project details such as weather conditions and completed quantities.
Quality Assurance and Testing: You’ll conduct materials testing for soils, concrete, and asphalt, and perform calculations and measurements of installed items to ensure project specifications are met.
Documentation and Reporting: The observer will maintain accurate and detailed records and reports using Microsoft products and AASHTOWare to address and report any design compliance issues with contractors to keep the project on track.
We’re looking for someone who is knowledgeable of KDOT testing procedures and can pass the required certification exams for the KDOT Certified Engineering Inspector. You should also have technical expertise and skills, ability to lift heavy items up to 50 pounds, and be able to work in varying weather conditions, 10+ hour days, overnight and weekends of required.

The Construction Field Tech will be at the heart of construction projects, ensuring quality and compliance with project plans. Here’s what you’ll do:
Field Observation and Testing: Perform materials testing to verify top-quality materials are being used. This may required some heavy lifting up to 50 pounds.
Read and Interpret Construction Plans: Gain valuable experience with KDOT/MODOT standards while navigating technical documents.
Construction Inspections: Measure and inspect installed work for acceptance, providing feedback and ensuring everything aligns with specifications.
Documenting and Reporting: Maintain daily logs and create detailed reports using tools like Microsoft products and AWP (AASHTOWare) to capture progress.
We’re looking for someone who’s eager to learn, proficient in basic math skills and measurements, able to follow directions and interpret plans, communicate verbally and orally with contactors, engineers, and supervisors, and work outdoors and overnight/weekends as needed.

Project/Design Engineer
An engineer works with the team to create designs related to land development, transportation, water and sanitary sewer infrastructure, hydrology, and storm sewers. Responsibilities include working with managers to assemble engineering designs, interpreting topographic surveys from information collected in the field, coordinating data with field surveyors and more. Preferred applicants should have educational and/or practical experience with engineering designs, must be able to obtain Intern Engineer status by passing the Intern Engineer practical test within 6 months of employment, and CAD experience (particularly with AutoCAD Civil 3D).

CAD Technician
SMH CAD Technicians assemble topographic surveys and data to be used for civil engineering site development projects. Additionally, individuals in this position may also coordinate activities of a small unmanned aerial vehicle (sUAV) to collect data. Desired applicants should have a minimum of 1 year of experience (educational and/or professional) with AutoCAD Civil 3D and Autodesk projects.

Field Technician
Field Technicians work on various field tasks including inspection, materials testing, and land surveying. Position duties include working with engineers to inspect projects, keeping daily logs as required for project records, and working directly with the Survey Crew Chief to complete land survey projects. Preferred applicants should be legally authorized to work in the US, possess or quickly learn new concepts such as fractions, percentages, and other testing regimens related to practical situations (training provided), and be able to work outdoors for extended hours and in extreme weather if needed and for out-of-town projects.
