Our goal is to provide the best possible experience imaginable. That extends to the clients and our team members.
At SMH everyone matters, you're not just a production resource. On the first day we are going to put you knee deep into our projects. This allows us the opportunity to capture input from variety of perspectives, resulting in better projects for our clients and, most importantly, it keeps you interested.

Hierarchy is loosely applied at SMH. Each employee, including the owners, are on a level playing field. Without the nonsense of corporate hoopla we have fun and we get stuff done.
There is no sense of superiority. We are a team with one common vision and every team member matters.
Benefits & Wellness
Taking care of our team is important to us. We offer:
- Competitive salaries
- Health insurance
- Dental insurance
- Supplemental insurance
- 401K retirement plan
We also pay about one-half of the equivalent a single employee's health insurance premium, whether that person or single or married.
We encourage all of our employees to be involved in professional organizations like APWA, KCHA, ASCE, KSPE, among others. Essentially, if you want to be involved we want you to be involved. Strictly related to development, all of our project managers go through rigorous Emerging Leaders Training offered by ACEC and Project Management Bootcamp offered by PSMJ.
The people at SMH care deeply about others and that doesn’t stop when we come to work. We invest and support a number of community programs like Royal Family Kids, The Little Apple Youth Triathlon, Water Matters Day, the Muscular Dystrophy Foundation, First Tee Golf Program, and many others throughout the year. If you have a passion for something, we’re open to finding a way to support it!
"SMH is small company where I get to be involved in just about every aspect of what we do. I might be grading a pond in Garden City one day and the next I'm detailing a retaining wall in Manhattan or testing concrete in Wamego. I get a little taste of everything and I like that." Jeff Hancock, P.E., Vice President
“I love problem solving and finding solutions to design issues. My superiors are always willing to listen to my ideas and give me input whether positive or negative. I’ve learned so much at SMH just from having people available to give me that input.” Krystal McClain, Computer Aided Drafting Technician
“SMH has a great open and relaxed work environment. We are able to meet expectations and deadlines while having a fun and friendly office.” Ben Gasper, IE, Design Engineer
